The United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) Director Ur M. Jaddou awarded the Ingenuity & Innovation Award to the Southwest Border (SWB) Digital A-File Team at the USCIS Director’s Awards Ceremony. The award recognizes the strong mission focus and technical excellence of the RDSO Program. The SWB Digital A-File Team includes both government and contractor team members and is a collaboration among four USCIS system teams, including three teams (CMS, RAILS and CIS2) within the Records, Development, Security and Operations (RDSO) Program. The award was formally presented on April 27, 2023.
About the Southwest Border (SWB) Digital A-File Initiative:
In July 2022, four USCIS system teams successfully deployed the inaugural electronic A-File, an information package containing essential information about immigrants. This electronic capability significantly improves real-time operations for U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) on the southwest border. Since July 2022, more than 21,000 electronic Alien Files (A-Files) have been electronically created and securely shared among mission users at CBP, ICE and USCIS, replacing a laborious and slower, paper-based process.
The electronic A-Files help CBP greatly reduce processing times during border encounters, reduce administrative time and overhead, and avoid the costs of paper file movement across border stations and File Control Offices (FCOs). Sharing information more rapidly helps CBP, ICE and USCIS perform their missions more efficiently and effectively, thus improving service to both immigrants and citizens.
